Meeting Minutes
September 9, 2011
Call to order
Bebe Kinnett called to order the regular meeting of the Bright Area Business Association at 8:00 am on Sept. 9th, 2011 at The Beacon in Bright, Indiana.
Roll call
The following people were in attendance: Diane Bender, Logan Supermart; Celeste Calvitto, The Beacon; and Bebe Kinnett, Absolute Web Designs; Ken Fey, Fey Services; Susan Brown, Merchants Bank; Michael Dees, All Phase Painting, Phil Kuhn, Dearborn Library; Jody Blasdel, Tri-Township Water; Jim Mansfield, Mansfield Insurance; David Lynch, Attorney at Law; Dale Lutz, Cornerstone Reality; Todd Listerman, Guest
Approval of minutes from last meeting
Minutes had been distributed posted on the web site. One minor revision was suggested and approved. Minutes were approved.
Leadership Team Reports
a.) President, Bebe Kinnett — The Bright Area Businesses Association website had 220 visitors in the past month which is well above average of 125 prior to the festival. There will be a nomination committee to create a slate of officers for 2012 by the Nov. meeting. Elections will take place at the Dec. meeting with installation of 2012 officers in Jan. Ken Fey volunteered for the committee.
b.) Vice President– No report.
c.) Treasurer, Dan Cross (e-mail report) – As of Aug 31; Cash on Hand –$1094.55, Membership Revenue- Aug. $400 YTD $1450, Disbursements in Aug. – $200 web updates.
d.) Membership, Diane Bender –Diane and Dan Cross balanced the financial record and determined the paid membership for 2011. There are 31 paid memberships with one new
e.) Publicity/ Social – The Oct. meeting will be a social meeting rather than a business meeting. The meeting will be on Oct. 13th from 6-8 at Merchant Bank. Dale Lutz and Celeste Calvitto will collect RSVP’s to determine the amount of food. Members, their guests, and potential business members are invited to attend. Thanks to Celeste, an announcement will be in next The Beacon. Diane Bender, Logan Supermart, will cater the first Bright Area Business Association After-Hours Social.
f.) Education – Celeste Calvitto introduced our speaker, Todd Listerman, who explained details concerning the Department of Transportation and Engineering (County Highway Department). The Stateline Road project is scheduled for the 2013 construction season which is April through Nov. Stateline Road will not be closed during the construction and widening. Every effort will be made to maintain access to the businesses with the least disruption as possible. State line will be widened to include a third lane for turning. Before construction begins, a study will be conducted to determine the need for a stoplight at Stateline and Salt Fork Roads. Dearborn Road is scheduled for work during the 2012 construction season.
Open issues & New Business
- New members, David Lynch and Michael Dees, introduced themselves and explained their business.
- Philip Kuhn, Dearborn library requested feedback from the group on how to increase attendance to the programs provided by the library.
- Jim Mansfield requested that in honor of 9-11 people remember the First Responders.
Next meeting will be at 6 pm, Thurs., Oct. , 2011 at Merchant Bank.
