January 10, 2020, BABA Meeting Minutes at the Bright Lion’s Club

Introduction of Attendees
Introduction of Guest Speaker – Chris Meyers, Friendship President and CEO
– Chris discussed the commitment of Friendship Bank and Insurance to minimizing the carbon footprint of their branches
– The latest example is the construction of the newest bank branch in Madison, IN
– The building was constructed specifically facing southward to maximize the angle of the sun and exposure
– 78 solar panels were installed for the purpose of powering the branch during peak sunlight, no battery storage
– All panels were sourced in the US and will provide 24kwatts of power
– The panels come with a 25 year warranty
– The overall cost of the project was $60,000 for the panels, installation and controls depreciated over 25 years
– The panels will be the primary source of power with the local power grid providing backup power when needed

Advertising Opportunity:
– BABA Gift Basket for the Mardi Gras (Children’s Advocacy Servicing 6 counties)
– We need donations for the basket from those interested
– Each County selects a King and Queen nominee which is awarded for votes ($1 = one vote)
– Last year, Casey and Toni were the Dearborn County King/Queen (received over 43,000 votes / $43,000)
– Contact Debby to donate items for the basket or bring to the next meeting on February 14th
Golf Outing:
– The plan is to have the brochures out by the end of January
– As always, the outing will be the third Monday in May (5/18/2020)
– One foursome has already committed
– Hole sponsorship is $125
– Foursome and Hole Sponsorship if $500
Next month’s meeting: Friday February 14, 2020 at 8:00 am, at the Lion’s Club
Announcements:
– Lonny Barnett discussed the recent SECURE Act passed by Congress at the end of 2019. One-Page sheets were passed out to attendees
– There will be a hearing at the Bright Elementary Cafeteria on February 13, 2020 @ 6:00 regarding the proposed LMH 94% rate increase for those affected in the West Harrison/Bright Area. Debby Stutz proposed a Motion that BABA opposes the rate increase for BABA which was seconded by Wayne Leslie. Motion passed.
