Bright Area Business Association
Meeting Minutes
November 2, 2017
Bebe Kinnett called the regular meeting of the Bright Area Business Association to order at 8 AM on November 2, 2017 at the Bright Lions Club in Bright, Indiana. Jim Kinnett led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance
Guest were: Dan Johnson, Bright Providence Presbyterian Church and Jane Crady, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting – there was not a quorum present, so the minutes from the October meeting were not reviewed or approved.
Guest speaker, Jane Crady, spoke about disasters and being prepared for emergencies. She noted that November is the second highest month for tornadoes in Indiana and encouraged everyone to be prepared. Do you have a disaster plan in place at your business and at home? Does your business have a continuity plan in place? Where will you operate? What about your employees? Does your family have a disaster plan? At home and work, do you have “sewer back-up” coverage?
Does Dearborn County have a Civil Emergency Response Team (CERT)? to go through emergency Preparedness – Response – Recovery and Management? Jason Sullivan is the Director of Emergency Management for Dearborn County. Jane stated that Dearborn County does NOT have an established COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster). Jane is available to come to Dearborn County to conduct COAD training if there is interest in creating a group. Jane provided very good information and Bebe thanked her for speaking to the group.
The Beer Bands and BABA-Q event held in October was a big success. It brought the community together, showcased some of the local businesses and broke-even on income and expenses. Bebe thanked everyone involved with the event.
Bebe congratulated Logan Supermart on being named the Dearborn County Business of the Year by the Dearborn County Chamber of Commerce.
The “H7 Harrison” business group will hold their Christmas luncheon at 11:30 on December 14, 2017 at Market Street Grille. BABA members are invited to attend.
Bebe then reviewed the Leadership Team for 2018. There are several positions to be filled and Bebe asked everyone to consider stepping-up to take a leadership role in 2018.
